Setting the Right Goals

Setting the right goals
A Guest Post from Ursula van Graan | Original Post at FullofGrit.co.za

Have you heard of ‘from couch to comrades’? Could such a radical change be true? That someone can go from changing channels to running 90km? Do you kinda wish, that someone was you?

Change is more sustainable when you are accountable, in a structured program and consistently doing it. When your why-you-want-to-do-it-talk is more than your why-you-don’t-have-time-for-it-talk.

The sooner you make a choice, the sooner you can make an adjustment.

So let’s review for a moment GOALS.

Changing your habits seems easy. You just say to yourself, you want to do this. You say to yourself, after or before work, I will go running before I… You wake up thinking this is what I am going to do today. Then you get home, and you feel worn down, and you just need to relax a bit. Your self-talk says you had a hard day. You can just chill. And you do. But then when you go to sleep that night, the other talk that wanted something better for you is disappointed. You let yourself down. I’ll try again tomorrow you reconcile. And the cycle begins.

Could this be easier? Could that change not be so hard? How can you listen to the self-talk that motivates you more? I think it can be easier. In coaching, you create a structure, a plan, accountability, and become empowered to do as you said you would. Athletes need coaches for training. But have you thought that for you, a health coach is just what you need to help you change your habits to make you get the most out of your body and will-power?

For some, goals feels like a natural expression. For others, they feel burdened by goals. I recently watched a great video about this.

In this video, Dean talks about goal setting in a great take-home message. He is the global talent development architect for Gallup.

He shares his experience when coaching on goals how they create a shift in being. That stake in the ground moves you from an observer to a participant. Goals are new beginnings that are meant to empower you.

Learn how to own your goals and set the right goals for your talents and strengths. Goals that serve as a rudder, steering you to advance your career, make a difference and leave a legacy.
